New Sidney Brichto Fellow in Israel Studies appointed

July 25, 2013

Following an extensive international search, the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies has appointed Dr Sara Hirschhorn as the new Sidney Brichto Fellow in Israel Studies at the Centre and University Research Lecturer in Israel Studies in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford.

Sara Hirschhorn

Dr Hirschhorn is a graduate of Yale and received her PhD in 2012 from the University of Chicago. Her PhD dissertation, City on a Hilltop: The Participation of Jewish-American Immigrants Within the Israeli Settler Movement, 1967-1987, provides a new perspective on the settler movement. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University, researching the Israeli settler movement, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the U.S.-Israel relationship. She is a contributor to the leading Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, and a frequent blogger on Israel affairs.

Centre President Dr David Ariel adds, “Dr Hirschhorn is an outstanding candidate who is academically committed to the values for which the Sidney Brichto Fellowship in Israel Studies was established.”
