First Five Books of Minor Prophets
[Paris or Geneva]: R. Étienne 1555-56.

The Étienne family was one of the most important humanist printers of the sixteenth century. They edited, translated and published scholarly works in Paris and in Geneva. In 1539, Robert Étienne was appointed Printer and Bookseller in Hebrew and Latin to the King. The book on display was published in 1555-6 by Robert who chose a new device for the publishing house: an olive tree with a banderole twined in its branches saying: “Noli altum sapere, sed time…” ("Be not high-minded, but fear" Romans 11:20).
