Object 9. Jewish Colonial Trust - James Loewe's commemorative stamps

Israel, 1999

Description:

James Loewe was the secretary of the Jewish Colonial Trust, and these commemorative stamps include his signature. The text is a reprint of the original share certificates which James signed as secretary. The surrounding images were part of the original design of the share certificate.

The main office was in London, where James Loewe lived for his adult life. The stamps were printed in Israel in 1999 to commemorate 100 years of the Jewish Colonial Trust, since its establishment in 1899. The Trust grew out of the First and Second Zionist Congresses, held in 1897 and 1898; in 1955 it became an Israeli company, renamed Ozar Hityashevut ha-Yehudim.
