Object 2. Herbert Loewe’s certificate from Queens’ College

Description:

After finishing his studies at Saint Paul’s School, Herbert left London for Cambridge, where he read oriental studies and theology. In 1901, he matriculated at Queens’ College. There, he received an Entrance Scholarship for Classics and Hebrew, an open Stewart of Rannoch Scholarship, the first Tyrwhitt Scholarship, the Mason Prize, and the Hebrew Prize. He was a student of Israel Abrahams, one of the leading Jewish scholars of that age. Herbert graduated first class in Oriental Languages in 1904 and Theology in 1905. He received his certificate in 1914 signed by John Neville Keynes, the Registrar of the University.
