Description:
Falkensohn-Behr was recognized in German literary circles because of
his book Gedichte von einem pohlnischen Juden (Poems by a Polish Jew),
published anonymously in 1772 and reviewed by Goethe that same year
in the Frankfurter Gelehrten Anzeigen. This was the first poetry collection
published by a Jew in German, an achievement all the more remarkable
considering that its author was not even German-born and had only learnt
the language as an adult*
