Why choose this programme?

Having previously studied Islamic studies, with a particular interest in Jewish-Muslim relations, I decided to apply to this course in order to acquire a solid background in Jewish studies and to expand the scope of my initial interests.

Of the many options available, the MSt in Jewish Studies at Oxford stands out as the most ideal programme. In my case, having already completed several years of graduate studies, I was looking for an intensive programme that offered in-depth courses pertinent to my specific academic needs. In addition to the intensive Hebrew language course, the variety of taught courses offered by the programme guarantees that students can expand their studies in any area which interests them. The fantastic research centres, colleges and libraries, such as the famous Bodleian Library as well as the Centre’s own specialised library, add to the many merits of this programme. The academic curriculum consists of a variety of taught courses, covering different themes and historical periods, allowing students to focus on areas of relevant interest. The programme culminates in a dissertation which gives students the opportunity to delve deeper into a subject of interest. The teachers are authorities in their fields, always ready to help and to offer generous advice.

My colleagues came from different parts of the world and from different backgrounds, and almost everyone has a special story. All these aspects make for a vibrant environment, intellectually and socially. While this is a relatively small and highly specialised programme, there is much diversity of research undertaken here by numerous visiting scholars that results in an incredibly stimulating working environment. All this makes the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies a unique institution within British academia. I recommend this programme to any student who wishes to specialise in Jewish studies or enhance their own related research.
