Object 6. Israel Abrahams’ letter of recommendation

Description:

In 1914 Herbert Loewe was appointed lecturer in Oriental Languages at Exeter College, Oxford, and was expected to take care not only of the academic but also the social life of Oxford Jewry. Applying to the position in Oxford Herbert received letters of recommendation from his professors in Cambridge, such as Francis Crawford Burkitt, Anthony Ashley Bevan, Frederick John Foakes-Jackson, Stanley A. Cook and Israel Abrahams. The letter on exhibit, dated 7 April 1914, was written by Abrahams, praising the applicant’s knowledge and excellent pedagogical skills.
